Include concrete, timber boards, sheet flooring or existing coverings as far as you know. Share past repairs, water-entry history and obvious movement without needing to diagnose the cause. The contractor should establish whether more investigation or separate corrective work is necessary.
Name the preparation in the proposal
Ask what assessment and preparation are included for the selected board and method. Removal, smoothing, repairs and associated products can be distinct parts of the job. The scope should explain the expected base condition before laying, with any allowances clearly identified.
Allow for the floor beneath old coverings
Some conditions only become visible after removal. Agree how findings will be shown to you and how changes are approved. Coordinate preparation with material delivery, occupancy and other trades; the best date for installation follows the base being suitable, not simply the board delivery date.
