Check that the selected board suits the method
Tell the contractor the exact product you have chosen or ask about the ranges they accept. Connection systems and installation requirements differ. Confirm material supply and quantity before booking, including the appropriate accessories required by the product.
Consider the base and underlay together
A floating installation still needs a suitable prepared substrate. Ask about assessment of the existing floor and what preparation is included. The underlay should be selected for the product and project; it should not be treated as a universal cure for an unsuitable uneven base.
Understand transitions and fixed furniture
Room sizes, doorways, cabinetry and other fixed items affect layout and movement provisions. Ask how the perimeter and changes to adjacent flooring will be finished. For a renovation, check door clearances and any effect on appliance access before the installation scope is accepted.
Questions about floating engineered timber floors.
Can a floating timber floor go over tiles?
The contractor must assess the tile surface, underlying condition, finished height and product instructions. Suitability should be confirmed for the actual floor.
Can it run under fixed kitchen cabinets?
Product requirements need to be followed. Tell the contractor about existing and planned cabinetry so the installation layout and sequence can be resolved appropriately.
